Despite of yesterday’s heartbreaking loss, Chula Vista FC’s future looks quite bright!
Chula Vista FC’s First Team’s heartbreaking, last minute, 2-3 , loss against San Diego Internacional FC in the Lamar Hunt’s US Open Cup’s Third Qualifying Round was hard to swallow. But, on the other hand, this only means that Chula Vista FC is back playing in these type of high profile tournaments.
Chula Vista FC had not fielded a team in the US Cup since 2020. And now, with a rejuvenated squad, Chula Vista FC can only see that they have a bright future ahead of them in these type of competitions. In last night’s game, CVFC’s squad had 7 players under 19 years of age and only 6 players over 25.
Chula Vista FC’s MLS Next program is certainly the reason that the club can afford to use such a young team since their players are constantly playing against the MLS’s regional foes such as LA Galaxy, LAFC, Real Salt Lake and now SDFC.
CVFC’s Academy Director and First Team’s Head Coach, Jose Hector Diaz, had this to say about their program: “We’re proud to have a young team gaining valuable experience, bridging MLS Next graduates, college players, former pros, and top regional talent. Adult development at Chula Vista FC is key, as this mix of seasoned and emerging players fosters the region’s top soccer development.”
Chula Vista FC is certainly heading in the right direction and can now say: We are back!!!
We can’t hardly wait for the start of the 2026 Lamar Hunt’s US Open Cup’s qualifying rounds!
