Chula Vista FC’s Academy Director is off to Scotland to obtain his UEFA C license!
Chula Vista FC’s Academy Director, Jose Hector Diaz, is on his way to Scotland to take the UEFA’s C license course. Diaz is thrilled to take this next step in his coaching career: “I am excited to participate in Scotland’s UEFA C license course. I am eager to learn from a distinguished federation that produced one of the greatest coaches in the world, Sir Alex Ferguson. Bringing back the knowledge gained from this course will help improve our club’s growth, and my role is to serve our club as a representative for individuals’ continual growth, hoping to inspire our coaches to continue the coaching education journey.” Diaz already has obtained the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) A License which he received back in 2017. He also received the Scottish Football Association (SFA) Youth camp’s Adult Coaching Award this year. Diaz plans to come back with his Scottish FA C License, and he expects to obtain his UEFA C License around February of 2024.
Diaz was invited to join Chula Vista FC back in 2011 with U17 team, in which he was the head coach, by former club President, Hugo Molina. After Molina retired and handed the reins of the club to Oscar Zamora in 2012, Diaz was appointed as the club’s Director of Coaching. Zamora quickly recognized Diaz’ potential to guide the club in a more professional direction. Zamora said: “When Molina asked me to take over the club, I told him that the only way I can do that was to appoint Diaz as our Director of Coaching. He had fresh ideas that uncovered an uncharted path for the club. It was the perfect opportunity to turn around the club and make a big impact for our Chula Vista community. We had other clubs come to our territory and take away our talent. By transforming our club into a more competitive one, playing in more challenging levels, etc., as the so called ‘big clubs’, this would translate into being able to offer our Chula Vista and South Bay area players a chance to play at those levels for a lesser cost without having to travel far to train with those clubs.” Zamora’s decision proved to be the right one as the club is now very well recognized as a very competitive club, not only regionally but even nationally. The club can competitively participate in prominent leagues such as MLS Next and Elite Academy and was able to grab national attention as the Cinderella story of the tournament back in 2015 when they advanced to the Lamar Hunt’s Open Cup. Zamora, who is still part of the club as VP of Admin and Registrar, concluded: “We made the right choice, and we are proud of his and our club’s accomplishments. Chula Vista FC for life!”
