Mathias Medel

Born in Chile, my first memories of soccer revolved around playing in the streets of my local neighborhood. I learned to play with my dad and imitate Chilean professional players I saw on television. My love of the sport grew watching my godfather play and learning from my grandfather – both former professional players. Moving to the United States at six years old, I immediately joined Chula Vista FC, where I played my entire life. At 18 years old, I began to coach at the club, and taking opportunities around San Diego, working with Juventus Youth Academy camps in 2023. Shortly after, I graduated from San Diego State University, where I studied Journalism, focusing on social and racial inequalities in our community. My coaching expertise lies in player technical ability, working individually with current college and MLS Next players in the South Bay area. As Director of Mini Maestros, my goal is to implement an understanding of basic technical and tactical ability for young players to transition into competitive soccer at our club and most importantly, learn to live the sport.
