Chula Vista @ Albion SC - U.S. Open Cup 2017

Albion Pros will be Chula Vista FC’s rival in this year’s Lamar Hunt’s US Cup’s First round. Both clubs already have a fierce rivalry in their youth and US Academy categories. However, this game will be even more intense since both clubs want to prove they are the best club at this
level.

Chula Vista FC has been through this road before. Their 2015 US Cup’s third round appearance against Sacramento FC made national news, captivating everybody’s imagination on how a little independent club from Chula Vista made it that far. Last year, Chula Vista FC was eliminated in the second qualifying round by La Maquina, which eventually was eliminated in overtime by the LA Galaxy in the MLS round.

For Albion Pros, it will be their first taste at this level. Albion has been competing in the National Premier Soccer League since 2016 and they will try to use this experience to advance in this year’s US Cup.

Chula Vista FC’s Head Coach, Jose Hector Diaz, had this to say about the upcoming match: “It is awesome to be back! We want to build on our 2015 success. We are also very excited to be playing in San Diego against our local rival Albion Pros. The Pros made it all the way to the NPSL’s West Region’s Finals. So this game promises to be very exciting for the fans and for both teams.”

Chula Vista FC’s players to watch are Alberto Diaz, Jose Luis Altamirano and Oscar Hernandez. Diaz had the distinction of being chosen the best Amateur Player of the 2015 US Cup and the Best Adult Cal South player also in 2015. Altamirano is a newcomer that has played for the U20 National Team as well as receiving numerous distinctions in his playing years at San Diego State. Hernandez is part of the original youth team that won National Cup and has been waiting for this opportunity to play at this level.

A good turn out of Chula Vista FC’s fans are expected to attend this game to be played today (Wednesday, May 10th), at 7 PM at Mission Bay HS. All CVFC fans are encouraged to wear their black CVFC gear and cheer for their team. The club has posted the event in Twitter as #ChulaVistaBlackout . A great game without doubt is expected between these San Diego County archrivals. We will keep you posted on the game’s outcome.
