Chula Vista FC is a soccer club who have been on the up for some time. Having reached the third round of the US Open Cup, the club became known throughout the United States. However, it was not only the playing style and results in the US Open Cup which captured the attention of onlookers; it was the structure and values of the soccer club.
Chula Vista has shown a great ambition to bring through quality soccer players from a young age, and this has been rewarded by the US Soccer Development Academy. It is all well, and good spending money on signing players but nothing beats bringing through young players and seeing them rise to the top of the professional game. The US Academy system is all about developing world class players through good structure, coaching, education and resources.
Academy status is not given to every soccer club in the United States. Only those who have shown the necessary commitment, values, style of play, philosophy and structure have been provided with US Soccer Development Academy status, and Chula Vista FC is proud to be such a club. The club has been awarded the Under 12’s Academy status and has become the only Academy in South Bay as a result. It is a huge honor, but this is just the start of what is going to be a very exciting time at the soccer club.
Chula Vista FC are renowned for having a high-quality coaching staff and a history of developing players who go far in the sport. Showing great respect and teamwork both on and off the field has been the basis for the current success at the club, and this will become even stronger with academy status.
The US Soccer Academy Development program only expanded to include the Under 12 age group in the Fall of 2016. Therefore, Chula Vista is one of the first clubs to be granted this status at Under 12 level. With the Academy in place, it was time for the Chula Vista Academy Under 12’s team to see some action and this came thanks to two matches over the Labour Day weekend, against Strikers FC, from Orange County.
Chula Vista took control of the first match early and went in 1-0 up at half-time, thanks to a well-taken goal from Jesus Sanchez. Chula Vista looked to add to their lead and the second goal came after the interval, with Gabriel Enriquez providing the finish. However, it wasn’t long before Strikers FC got into their stride and after piling men forward, they made the breakthrough to pull a goal back. This spurred on the team from Orange County, who went on to score two more goals and take the match 3-2 at the final whistle.
The players who were due to play in the second match watched and learned from what they saw, which is a very encouraging sign. The game ended 0-0 and goalkeeper Rafael Torres was very pleased with his clean sheet. The coaches were happy with what they saw, and it was the start of something special for the Chula Vista Academy Under 12’s team.
The improvements continued as the team traveled to play West Coast Futbol Club the following day and were held 4-4 in a highly entertaining first match, before taking the second game comfortably 5-0. It was a historic occasion as the Under 12’s recorded their first win with Academy status. From there, things continued to improve for the team, and the fixtures against Albion SC produced two good performances from Chula Vista, and although one match was lost 1-0, the other saw a great 3-0 win and the signs were there that things were beginning to take shape. This proved to be the case in the next round of matches, as Chula Vista Academy Under 12’s claimed their first double success, with 2-1 and 3-2 wins over Arsenal FC.
At this stage, it was important to remember that while winning matches is great, the way the team play and conduct themselves is just as important and the club have forged a great reputation for promoting competitive but fair play. As the season has developed, the team have been working hard, and the players have been showing great signs of development under Academy status. Following two tough matches against Nomads SC, Chula Vista started to hit the levels they are capable of reaching.
Between 1st October and 12th November 2016, the team has lost only two matches out of a total of sixteen games played, which is a fantastic record and one both the players and coaching staff can be proud of. Everyone at the club is looking forward to the final match of 2016 on the 10th December and when the season continues in February 2017.
There is another important date to be aware of before that, which is the 12th and 13th December. There will be an ID event for top 2006 and 2007 talent. So, if you are or know any young players born between these dates, this is a great opportunity to come and participate at a soccer club which holds Academy status at Under 12 level. What better place to start a career in soccer than Chula Vista FC? This is your chance to shine in front of some of the best coaches in youth soccer and who knows where it could lead? Do not pass up this tremendous opportunity to join Chula Vista FC and perhaps become of the future greats of the game.
