In yet another way to offer more ways to help our Chula Vista FC players compete at a higher level, our club will join the Super Y League. This league is a youth soccer league with teams from the United States and Canada. Founded in 1999, the Super Y League is dedicated to the progression of future professional players and has steered the course for development of elite clubs, players and coaches.
Our club’s Director, Hector Diaz, explains why our club joined the Super Y League: “We need a better pathway for our older age groups before they join the college ranks or our First Team. The Super Y League will add competitive games and extend our spring season for those age groups. Our club will be the only one in the South Bay of San Diego County involved with the Super Y League of the USL, and among the few in Southern California. Joining the league adds to the prestige our club in cementing itself as the best in the South Bay. We have the DA in the younger age groups, but our older have nowhere to compete. Our top players will transition into a schedule with the Super Y League on it. Competitive matches and one match per day.
Diaz also added on what it means to our players and what will be the benefit for our club: “Our players can compete against other players at a high level, and will provide them to travel to the National Championship games in Florida. In the past, our players came back from high school soccer break and competed in the National Cup and took another break. Now, our players will be able to play in a competitive league that has extended their Spring Season, before ending it. It will allow for a more extended season and provide us with a set of games in which we can validate our training sessions.” Diaz also analyzed what are our club’s short term and long term benefits: “We look forward to being among the most competitive teams in the region with an identified style of play across all age groups. In the long term, establish ourselves among the elite Super Y Clubs in the Nation.”
Chula Vista FC will field teams in the U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18/19 age brackets. Preseason starts in April and the league will run from May through June.
